A very interesting review of John Piper's book, "Bloodlines."

From maria22000: (Feb. 1, 2007)

"'Lord, now lettest Thou Thy servant depart in peace, according to Thy word. For mine eyes have seen Thy salvation which Thou hast prepared before the face of all people; a light to enlighten the Gentiles and the glory of Thy people Israel.'

"This prayer, the prayer of St. Symeon, which is said at the end of our Vespers (evening) service, is possibly one my favorite prayers. This, and the prayer of the thief on the cross next to Jesus saying 'Remember me, O Lord, when Thou comest into Thy Kingdom.'

"When my maternal grandmother was on her deathbed after a heavy unexpected stroke, it was the prayer I prayed over her, holding her hand. This prayer came naturally to me in the moment. My grandmother was a very pious woman and I know she appreciated me praying there with her. As soon as I had said the last words, she lifted her head and opened her eyes as if she saw something beautiful. Then she fell back and was gone. Somehow I have always thought that she saw what Symeon beheld and I pray that I may die in the same manner, beholding Christ and the other world."

We went out on Monday and built three kidding pens in the goat barn. It was a whole two weeks until we were expecting the goats to kid, but it was 76 degrees out, and the weather was lovely, perfect for working outdoors. With a cold front and snow expected the following night, we decided to get them done in plenty of time. We were very surprised, therefore, to hear a little "maaaa!" coming from the direction of the barn the next afternoon, as some of the children were leaving for music practice. Sure enough, a little yearling had kidded, and two cute little goat kids were just beginning to stand up when we rushed out to the barn. Their names are "Freckle" and "Speckle." "Freckle" is brown with a white spot on his head, and "Speckle" is white with brown spots on his ears. Mother and sons are doing well.... and I'm soooo glad they had a warm place to be in the barn during the following snowy days! (So much for being way ahead of kidding time...)

Overheard:

"The thing that I don't like about Ron Paul, is that he talks too much about the Constitution."

......duh..........

Like, it's, like, you know, like, maybe, his JOB DESCRIPTION?!

Like, you know, maybe it tells, like, what HIS RESPONSIBILITIES AND LIMITS OF OFFICE ARE?!

Oh, since none of the OTHER guys (and ...gal...) talk about that, it MUST not be that imPORtant, right?
